Which Output Window Is Best for Your LDLS System?

To help your team get the most out of its Laser-Driven Light Source (LDLS®) system, we offer several different types of output window materials. The ideal material for your LDLS system’s output window primarily depends on the amount of ultraviolet (UV) exposure required for your application.

All LDLS systems come standard with a quartz output window that transmits light in the 170 nm – 2,500 nm range and is suitable for most applications. However, prolonged exposure to UV light can be detrimental to an optical system and may negatively impact your LDLS system’s lifespan. If your application does not require exposure to UV light, we recommend using an yttrium-aluminum-garnet (YAG) or borosilicate crown (BK7) output window. These materials filter out UV light while still allowing longer wavelengths to be transmitted. On the other hand, if your application stands to benefit from enhanced deep-UV radiance, a magnesium fluoride (MGF) output window allows for better transmission of UV light in the 170 nm – 200 nm range.
